On August 6, long time members Wilbert and Nancy Ball hosted a club meeting/pot luck at their cottage in Port Joli, outside of Liverpool. Twenty one members (i.e. families) with six classics attended the fun filled day. Picnics, cruises, barbeques, pot luck remain popular club activities to this day.

Another highlight of the summer of ‘88 was the presentation of the “Class of 61" at the Grafton Street Dinner Treater. Eight members and their classics attended the opening and parked outside the theater adding some atmosphere to the evening. While we enjoyed the free meal and play inside, the theater had security watching our cars outside.

Fall elections soon followed with Jeff once again getting the nod as our leader. Joining him on the executive were vice president Wayne Conrod, treasurer Anne Marie Dorey, secretary Deborah Saulnier and Darlene Simpson as entertainment director. Jeff returned to newsletter editor.

A fall party was hosted by Anne Marie and Merlin Dorey at their home in Lake Echo. Approximately 30 people attended.

After receiving two consecutive monthly newsletters, a combined August September issue was published. However, the year ended with October, November and December newsletters. For 1988, as in the past, members’ classic features were sporadic at best. Thanks to Wayne Conrod and his acquisition of several classics this year, enabling him to supply information for a couple of newsletter features.

The year ended with a decision to switch to the Wandlyn Inn in Amherst as the host hotel for our 1989 event. It was hoped that this location may be more central and attract some additional participants.

1989 was still young when we were treated to a tour of Zenith Plating in Dartmouth. I think all who attended gained a little more insight into this labour intensive process. The February newsletter had an interesting article recapping the past eight years of the club. It pointed out that five of the original 17 members still remained in the club. Three “originals” still remain in 2006.

Anne Marie and Merlin Dorey were kind enough to host our eighth birthday party in March which was postponed from February due to inclement weather. Also in March, the province started issuing personalized license plates. I remember going the Department of Motor Vehicles on the first day that applications for personalized plates were being accepted to file my application.

Interclub bowling started. Although I did not participate in this, I understand it was quite popular and went on for a number of years.
